xalan requires an XML Schema processor which is provided by
xerces. The jar binary distribution which is the source for this
package includes xercesImpl.jar as well as a jar for the XML APIs,
JAVAX, DOM and SAX, xml-apis.jar. These two jars are split off from
the main xalan package so that they can be replaced by newer xerces
distributions.
